Mental health problems in children and adolescents are a growing global public health concern. According to the World Health Organisation, it is estimated that 10% of children and young people worldwide experience a mental health condition, but the majority of them do not seek help or receive care. The consequences of not addressing mental health and wellbeing for children and adolescents can not only have a detrimental impact on their present, but can also effect their future.
With social, economic, and cultural inequalities continuing to exist and have a significant impact on the mental health of children and adolescents, the mental health and wellbeing of our future generations must be a global priority.
The theme of this year’s World Mental Health Day (10 October), set by the World Federation for Mental Health, is ‘Make Mental Health & Well-Being for All a Global Priority‘. By focusing on this theme, alongside our vision of ‘sharing best evidence, improving practice‘, we urge you to focus on how we, as a society, can make the mental health and wellbeing of all children and adolescents a global priority.
