The day promoted the notion that the assessment of literacy difficulties should be the first step on a clear pathway to individualised interventions for children or young people.

Professor Julian (Joe) Elliott
Principal, Collingwood College and Professor of Educational Psychology, Durham University
Initially a teacher of children with special educational needs, Joe subsequently practised as an educational psychologist before becoming a university lecturer. A Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences, a Chartered Psychologist, and an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society, he is registered to engage in clinical practice as an educational psychologist by the Health Professions Council.
