About the masterclass

This event being sold as two sessions, you cannot select just one.

Dr. Sam Goldstein leads this two-part masterclass, providing professionals with evidence-based strategies to foster resilience in children and adolescents. Drawing on his expertise in pediatric neuropsychology, he examines resilience through a biopsychosocial framework, exploring key predictors, cognitive influences, and developmental factors that shape long-term adaptability. The sessions will combine lectures, case studies, and interactive discussions to explore both foundational and advanced resilience strategies.

The first session will provide an overview of resilience research and its relevance to pediatric mental health, emphasizing the importance of a resilience-focused mindset. Dr. Goldstein will present research on key predictors of resilience, including family dynamics, cognitive abilities, and environmental influences. Participants will explore how resilience evolves across developmental stages and engage in applied exercises to connect these concepts to clinical practice.

The second session will focus on the role of intelligence, problem-solving, and adaptive thinking in promoting resilience. Dr. Goldstein will introduce strategies to strengthen protective systems at family, school, and community levels, emphasizing culturally responsive approaches and practical applications of resilience research in therapeutic interventions.

By combining theoretical insights with practical applications, Dr. Goldstein will provide professionals with the skills to integrate resilience principles into clinical and educational settings, highlighting the importance of creating supportive environments that enhance adaptability and psychological well-being in young populations.

Learning outcomes:
1. To understand the biopsychosocial framework of resilience and the key predictors, such as family, cognitive, and environmental factors, that shape children’s development.
2. To examine how intelligence and cognitive functions act as protective factors and how problem-solving abilities contribute to resilience.
3. To learn strategies for strengthening family, community, and systemic protective influences, empowering children through supportive environments.
4. To explore how to apply resilience principles in therapeutic contexts and design interventions for diverse pediatric populations.
5. To develop resilience-based interventions that promote long-term mental wellness and adaptability in children facing challenges.
