This talk, and Q & A, on ‘Type 1 Diabetes and Disordered Eating (T1DE): Recognition and Risk Management’ considered the impact of diabetes on peoples lives, clinical presentations, and an approach to safe management of the significant associated physical and mental health risks.

Organised by the London and South East ACAMH Branch Dr. Helen Partridge and Dr. Carla Figueiredo gave a one-hour talk, followed by a 30 minute Q & A session.

“This talk is aimed at increasing awareness of people living with Type 1 Diabetes and an Eating Disorder. We will consider the impact of diabetes on peoples lives, clinical presentations and an approach to safe management of the significant associated physical and mental health risks. About the speakers

Dr. Helen Partridge trained at St Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical school, London. After completion of specialist training in Wessex she completed a clinical fellowship in Advanced diabetes technologies and therapeutics at University of Toronto, Canada. She was appointed as a Consultant in Diabetes at Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospital in 2013 and is also a visiting fellow at Bournemouth University. Dr. Partridge is lead for the insulin pump service, renal diabetes service and young persons’ diabetes service. She is also lead for the Bertie structured education course and led on the development of the award winning, QISMET accredited Bertieonline. She has an active interest in research and innovation in type 1 diabetes and is clinical lead in the ComPASSION project working with colleagues in the eating disorders service to support people with type 1 diabetes and an eating disorder.

Dr. Carla Figueiredo, Consultant Psychiatrist in Eating Disorders, Dorset Healthcare NHS Trust. Dr. Figueiredo trained at the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa before completing her specialist training in Wessex. She was appointed Consultant Psychiatrist working with the Dorset Healthcare All Age Eating Disorders Service in 2010. Over the last 3 years she has been working closely with her Diabetes colleagues on the Wessex ComPASSION Pilot, looking into how best to support people living with Type 1 Diabetes and an Eating Disorders.
