CAMH Journal 2024 Special Issue – ‘Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in Child and Adolescent Mental Health’

The Child and Adolescent Mental Health (CAMH) Journal are delighted to announce the CAMH 2024 Special Issue on ‘Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in Child and Adolescent Mental Health’, edited by Cornelius Ani, Bolanle Ola, Matthew Hodes, and Valsamma Eapen.

With socio-ecological factors as major determinants of poor mental health across the life span, these factors can lead to health inequalities. In their brilliant Special Issue Editorial, Cornelius Ani et al. highlight the ‘importance of strong links between social disadvantage and mental illness [as] the spur for this special issue focussing on the theme of equity, inclusion and diversity in child and adolescent mental health. The issue has contributions from authors from a variety of countries from most regions of the world. The issue covers a range of themes including social inclusion and educational attainment, help-seeking behaviour, neurodevelopmental conditions, suicide, psychosis and ethno-racial discrimination. The papers include expert perspectives from the UK, the United States, South Africa, Australia and South Asia. The debate section discusses involuntary treatment and the authors highlight issues of inequity’.

With this in mind, this CAMH Special Issue aims to:

  • Explore the strong links between social disadvantage and mental illness
  • Examine the role of education and social inclusion in positive mental health outcomes
  • Engage with diverse and varied perspectives on CAMH issues.

We hope that you can access our Open Access papers and do please share with colleagues to better understand the importance of equity, diversity and inclusion for child and adolescent mental health.
