Dr. Michele S. Berk is a licensed clinical psychologist and Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Stanford University School of Medicine, Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. She is Joint Editor of CAMH.
Dr. Berk is an expert on the treatment of suicidal adolescents. She received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from New York University and completed post-doctoral training at the University of Pennsylvania with Dr. Aaron Beck. She was on the faculty at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA for 9 years and joined the faculty at Stanford in September, 2015. She has multiple publications on treatment approaches for individuals who have attempted suicide and was one of the Principal Investigators of an NIMH-funded, a multi-site, clinical trial of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) with adolescents called the “Collaborative Adolescent Research on Emotions and Suicide (CARES) Study.” She is the Director of the Adolescent Dialectical Behavior Therapy Program and the Adolescent Safety Assessment Program at Stanford. She has multiple publications on the treatment of individuals who have attempted suicide and has given numerous national and local presentations on this topic. She is also the editor of a book published in 2019 by the American Psychiatric Association Press entitled, “Evidence-Based Treatment Approaches for Suicidal Adolescents: Translating Science into Practice.”
