ACAMH’s International Development Director, Dr. Gordana Milavic, is a trustee of the charity Nip in the Bud. The organisation works with mental health professionals to produce short films and fact sheets to help parents, primary school teachers and others caring for and working with children to recognise potential mental health conditions. Their goal is to increase the prospects of early intervention and to reduce the risks of those conditions becoming more serious in later years.

Kitty Nabarro, Trustee of Nip in the Bud, said; “Nip in the Bud films are a free resource, and illustrate the behaviours common in different conditions in children, along with explanations and information on how to follow up and get help. We also offer an accompanying downloadable free PowerPoint and fact sheets explaining the symptoms to look out for, to spot early signs of distress which may require further monitoring. These resources will be of particular use for INSET in primary schools, university teacher trainees, or to train anyone working with children. We urge you to share details with your networks.”

The latest film is on ‘Recognising Autism’ and includes the accompanying fact sheet. Other films include Anxiety Disorders, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Conduct Disorder, Depression, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The Real Life Experience Films show interviews with young people and parents who have been affected and who speak openly and movingly about their conditions and about the importance of getting the right diagnosis as early as possible. More Real Experience Films are being added.

You can find out more about Nip in the Bud on their website.  Follow them on the following social media channels Twitter, Facebook, Vimeo, YouTube, LinkedIn.

Hi there. We are probably not the right people to ask, as we do not deal with this type of matter. However do please look at Young Minds or The Mix who should be better suited to assist.
